The appearance of the planet as we know it today is relatively new. The land and oceans that we see on the globe today are the product of the work of tectonic plates, which every now and then add up like a puzzle, writes IFL Science.

These pieces of the puzzle are shifting, but too slowly for us to notice in our lifetime. However, scientists offer to look at the globe of our world on a scale of millions of years – the movement of land masses will return us back to the time of dinosaurs and megalodon, to make the globe completely unrecognizable to our eyes.

In a new study, scientists have created a tool that can help us move through time – from the present, to the time of the first vertebrates, the first hominids and dinosaurs.

For this, the creator of the Ancient Map of the Earth, Ian Webster, used data on the movement of tectonic plates and paleographic maps of Christopher Scotese from the PALEOMAP project.

Thus, every person on Earth is given the opportunity to travel in time – for example, go 750 million years ago , jump n 250 million years ago and return back to the present time.

The interactive globe allows you to “live” the most iconic moments of the Earth, or by holding the left or right keys on the keyboard, watch how the continents broke up and converged, forming the shape of the planet familiar to us. In addition, the map has options that allow you to select your city on the ancient globe of the Earth, move to a certain period of time or certain important moments in the history of our planet.

Simply enter your address in the Ancient Earth Map, and you you will see where your current place of residence was located at one time or another in the life of the planet. The interactive globe is in the public domain at the link.
