Preet Chandry plans to cross Antarctica in 75 days.
The 40-year-old Princess of Wales Catherine became the patroness of British Army Captain Preet Chandry's expedition through the Antarctic. This was reported in the official account of the royals.
Preet has set herself the ambitious goal of becoming the first woman to completely cross Antarctica, and she will travel over 1,600 kilometers on this solo journey. Last year, Preet successfully became the first woman of color to travel to the South Pole all alone, completing the journey just two days short of Joanna Davidson's 38-day record.
During the expedition, Preet will be hauling 120 pounds of equipment on a sled. kg at -50°C and winds that can reach 97 kilometers per hour. She will start the journey in November and will try to complete it in 75 days.
“My goal on this expedition has always been to inspire people to push their limits. I want to take people on this journey with me to help them believe that nothing is impossible. It's an absolute privilege to have the Princess of Wales as your patroness,” Chandry said.
The patronage announcement was made shortly after Kate Middleton's team confirmed her first public appearance after a three-week absence. Catherine took a break from public life to spend time with her three children, who just had a vacation.
On November 3, the Princess of Wales will travel to Scarborough with her husband, Prince William. There, on behalf of the Royal Foundation and the Two Ridings Community Foundation, they will begin funding charities aimed at improving the mental health of children.
Catherine last performed royal duties on October 15, when, as patron of English rugby, she sent a letter of recommendation to English rugby league.
