Nova was born into the British Prime Minister's family last June and has become a favorite.
New Prime Minister The UK settled in Downing Street with his wife, daughters and beloved Labrador named Nova, who has been living in the family since last year. On his Instagram page, he posted several photos with his pet.
The politician's post was dedicated to Poppy Appeal (“red poppy”), an annual charity campaign in favor of war veterans. Volunteers sell boutonniere poppies for symbolic money – from one pound to the amount of as much as they can. Every year in the UK alone, about 40 million pounds are collected, which then go to help combat veterans and the active military.
This year, schoolchildren came to the residence of the head of government and handed him and his wife red poppies.
“There is no greater sacrifice than that of those who give their lives in the service of their country. So during this year's #PoppyAppeal, please donate generously to honor our veterans – past and present – and those who continue to protect us today.” he wrote, and also made a donation, setting an example for others.
A video released by the Royal British Legion shows Nova being led on a leash by Rishi Sunak's wife Akshata Murthy. The dog fawns over her and gets a treat.
According to The Mirror, Nova is a red Labrador, whose appearance Sunak wrote back in June last year. Then the politician worked as Chancellor of the Exchequer and lived at 11 Downing Street.
Initially, the family did not plan to have a pet, but when Sunak's daughters, Anushka and Krishna, met Boris Johnson's dog named Dillin, they literally begged father to give them a puppy, and in the end he gave in to the requests of the children. Soon, he himself became attached to Nova.
It is known that the dog loves to eat fried chicken and sleep in his master's office on a red box with documents. She sometimes flickers on his Instagram. In one post in October 2021, the dog was sleeping on a blue sofa next to his owner while he read the month's budget reports.
“Tomorrow's budget and spending review will ensure a stronger economy for the British people. I hope you find its more exciting than Nova,” Sunak captioned the photo.
As for the cat Larry, who has been living in the residence of British prime ministers for 11 years and only in the last year has met the third head of government after Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, then he's not going anywhere.
The white and gray cat was selected by Downing Street staff at the Battersea Dog and Cat Shelter in 2011. Larry was the first cat to be promoted to Chief Mouser and is regularly seen chasing mice or foxes outside the Prime Minister's house.
He also has his own unofficial Twitter account, where he posts ironic tweets about the current state of affairs British politics.
