Four days before the second round of the legislative elections, the campaign is getting into trouble after the intervention of the Head of State Emmanuel Macron, the absolute majority of whom the Assembly is threatened, and which has demanded a “solid” majority to the chagrin of its opponents who denounce a “bankruptcy”.
Descending for the first time in the arena since the first round, Emmanuel Macron dramatized the issue on Tuesday by assuring that the choice of the second round was “more crucial than ever”.
“Nothing would be worse than to lose ourselves in immobility, in blocking, in postures” and “to add a French disorder to the world disorder”, he assured from Orly airport before his departure for Romania, a trip entirely devoted to the war in Ukraine.
Emmanuel Macron continues his journey on Wednesday, in Romania where 500 French soldiers have been deployed since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, then in Moldova for a support visit. It is not excluded that he will then continue in Ukraine.
For this trip organized between two tours, the Head of State was accused of “contempt” by the Insoumis leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who also mocked Tuesday the “Trump sketch” of a statement made on the tarmac.
In an evening meeting in Toulouse, the leader of Nupes hammered that “stability is at home us” because “we are going to plan the change”.
On the alliance side of the left, the environmental leader Julien Bayou ensures that “a kind of panic wins the macronie”, estimated. “It smells of fir trees and panic on board”, mocked the communist leader Fabien Roussel.
On the right too, the declaration of the Head of State made people cringe: “The presidential majority cannot claim the monopoly of the Republican camp”, estimated Vice-President LR of the Senate Roger Karoutchi, while Les Républicains hope to regain a central role with the legislative elections.
Because Emmanuel Macron is not guaranteed to have an absolute majority of 289 seats: the various polling institutes predict a range of 255 to 295 seats, and 150 to 210 for Nupes.
One of Sunday's challenges will be mobilization, after a first round where one in two voters did not turn up: “We are supporting 406 candidates in the second round. I therefore make a clear appeal to abstainers: if you vote on Sunday, Macron lost,” said LFI deputy Adrien Quatennens on France 5.
For his part, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire accused the Nupes of “delirium”, “conspiracy”, and to want to increase taxes by 100 billion euros.
Finally, the LREM president of the outgoing Assembly, Richard Ferrand, dramatized the issue by estimating Tuesday evening that a cohabitation and the Nupes would be “politically impossible”.
“On substantive issues, which are both security issues, which relate to economic and social credibility, we are in a situation where everyone is poles apart”, he underlined on LCI.< /p>
Mobilization continues to be in place on Wednesday in the majority: Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne will campaign in Calvados in the morning, before participating in the 8 p.m. news on France 2. All the candidates of the presidential camp in running in the second round have scheduled a public meeting in the evening.
Edouard Philippe will go to support Aurélie Taquillain, in his constituency of Yvelines which will know one of the rare triangular, since it will face candidates LR and Nupes.
The former Prime Minister will then go to Paris in the constituencies of Minister Clément Beaune and outgoing MP Pierre-Yves Bournazel, both in a delicate situation, then in Tonnerre with the head of the MoDem François Bayrou.
On the left, the socialist leader Olivier Faure will support the candidates of Nupes in Seine-et-Marne, Melun, Combs-la-Ville, Thorigny and Meaux.
Marine Le Pen, who targets “100 or more” deputies, will go to her constituency of Pas-de-Calais, before going to support her former deputy campaign manager, Jean-Philippe Tanguy, in the Somme.
” The only ones who are dynamic are the RN” and “we can have a powerful opposition group”, assured France 2 on Tuesday evening the presidential finalist.
While the deadline for the submission of applications was fixed Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., some engaged in the rare triangular preferred to throw in the towel: thus the communist dissident Azzedine Taïbi, largely outdistanced in the first round by the official candidate of Nupes in the 4th of Seine-Saint -Denis.
On the other hand in Lot-et-Garonne the outgoing LREM Alexandre Freschi, who came third in the first round, will maintain his position against Nupes-PS and RN candidates, despite the instructions of his party.
