“You mustn't let go”: in the home stretch of the legislative elections, the former Premier Minister Édouard Philippe multiplies trips as on the Ile d'Oléron on Friday, in support of Macronist candidates or his Horizons party to snatch an absolute presidential majority.

Under oppressive heat in Château-d'Oléron, tourists can make a wish on an oyster shell that they hang on the railing of the Pont des Rêves, like the padlocks on the Passerelle des Arts in Paris.

The wish of the former Prime Minister is all found: “I wish that the country can obtain a stable and solid majority and coherent with the election of the President of the Republic”, told AFP the mayor of Le Havre surveying the citadel of Château-d'Oléron despite the sun.

From Courbevoie (Hauts-de-Seine) to Tonnerre (Yonne) via Paris before the Vendée and Nantes later in the day, he is on all fronts this week. “We must not let go, and campaign to the end,” insists Édouard Philippe.

He came to Oléron to support, at a run, a candidate from his Horizons movement in the 5th constituency of Charente-Maritime, Christophe Plassard, not unhappy to have “the visibility” of an ex-tenant of Matignon.

It was also an opportunity for the former Prime Minister to test his popularity, handing out handshakes and souvenir photos to traders and craftsmen in Château-d'Oléron, one of the island's eight municipalities, led by the right.< /p>

“There are a lot of National Rally candidates who don't campaign, I think it's a lack of respect for voters, you have to go and introduce yourself even if sometimes you yelled at, “insists Mr. Philippe.

The candidate Christophe Plassard is qualified in the second round with (23.83%) but preceded by the RN Séverine Werbrouck (25.76%), surprise of the 1st round in this 5th constituency, which is both coastal, touristic and rural.

In this department, three constituencies qualified the RN in the second round, but this 5th is the only one to have hoisted the party of Marine Le Pen in the lead.

Asked about his future ambitions, Édouard Philippe assures us: “I want to be mayor of Le Havre”. As for the role that his party could play in the majority: “the important thing is that it works, I'm not here to count the units”.
