Montpellier's Arthur Cazaux (101st in the world) and Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime (23rd) face off this Wednesday, January 29 at the Open Occitanie, starting at 6:30 p.m., for a place in the quarter-finals.
If he were to win against the tournament's No. 2 seed, Cazaux would win for the first time against FAA and reach the quarter-finals, at home in Montpellier, for the first time as well.
The 22-year-old Frenchman has indeed suffered two defeats against Auger-Aliassime: the first a year ago at the same venue and at the same stage of the competition (5-7, 6-2, [5] 6-7), the other 20 days ago in the round of 16 of the Adelaide tournament (6-1, 4-6, 5-7).
“Each time, we fought a big fight that lasted more than two and a half hours. It was never in my favor. It's time to change the situation,” smiled Cazaux after his first-round victory over Stan Wawrinka.
