The actress says she is rarely invited to audition.
Lucy Liu told how systemic racism has affected its ability early in his career.
During an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, the 51-year-old actress said that she was called to audition much less than her “white” friend.
I guess I was too naive and didn’t know what lies ahead for me and what I will face. The first time I only had 2-3 of listening per month, while my friend went on 10 auditions a week and sometimes a day
— said Lucy.
But over time, the actress dropped the winning ticket:
I was lucky, I turned up to work, which gave me a niche where I stand out against other Actresses. I thought then: “I don’t know why I got here, but it is necessary to give in full.” When you “black sheep”, you have nothing to lose.
Earlier African-American actress viola Davis also complained about the racism in the film industry. The actress noted that her experience and career achievements comparable to the achievements of many top Actresses, but she is paid much less.
My career is comparable to the career of Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Sigourney weaver. They go the same way as I do. But I with them did not stand — not in terms of money nor in terms of professional opportunities. I do away from them. I said, “You’re the black Meryl Streep. You’re the one”. Okay, if you think I’m unique — pay me accordingly
