Marvel: The Eternals 2 should do well despite the semi-failure of the film

A cast member of Marvel's Eternals has reported that a sequel is well under discussion with Chloe Zhao returning to direct.

The Eternalsby Marvel was released on November 5, 2021 and despite its five-star cast, its freshly Oscar-winning director and its promise to lift the veil on a whole section of mythology which had until then only been glimpsed (the Eternals and the Celestials ), the film did not have the expected success. In addition to mixed reviews, the feature had a worldwide box office below most Marvel ($402 million including $164 at home), even though it enjoyed an exclusive theatrical release.

Inevitably, one wonders if the team will be back on the show or if the surviving members will simply appear in other franchises or in post-credits scenes to prepare the two next Avengers announced during the last San Diego Comic-Con. In November, producer Nate Moore (Captain America: The Winter Soldier,Civil War,Black Panther)calmed things down by explaining that unlike the other Marvel movies (with the exception of The Incredible Hulk and Black Widow), no sequels were in the fold. studio.

It will have to be put somewhere anyway

More recently, an actor who participated in the film announced the opposite. During an interview with the Today Show, Patton Oswalt confirmed that a sequel project is well planned: “They announced that there would be a sequel to Eternals and it was Chloe Zhao who will make it.” The actor only appeared for a few seconds in a post-credits scene as Pip the Troll, announcing the arrival of Eros (Harry Styles), Thanos' brother. However, he didn't say whether or not he'll be in the game, or when the sequel might go into production.

The information is not yet confirmed by Marvel, but Kevin Feige may well make an announcement about it during D23 next September. After that, the next MCU movie to be released will be Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on November 9, 2022 in France.
