Glass bottles of Coca-Cola Sugar Free and cans of Fuze Tea Peach are being recalled due to high chlorate content.

The European bottler of Coca-Cola announced on Monday, January 27, 2025, a major recall of several products in Europe, including “Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Fuze Tea, Minute Maid, Nalu, Royal Bliss and Tropico”, due to “high chlorate content”.

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) initially stated that only “two batches had been distributed in France but had not been put on shelves”. “CCEP has asked its distributor customers to block the affected products in their warehouses”, the company explained.

A company spokesperson assured BFMTV that “the product recall does not apply to the French market”. However, some of these products were eventually put on shelves and/or sold, leading Rappel Conso to announce two recalls this Tuesday for the affected batches.

“This recall only concerns a very limited number of products. The rest of our range of beverages distributed in France is not affected”, confirms Coca-Cola Europacific Partners.

“Chlorate content not in compliance with quality standards”

The recalled products are as follows :

Fuze Tea Peach 33cl cans, sold at Carrefour, Leclerc, Auchan, Coopérative U, B&M, Francap, Franprix and Monoprix. Only lots 335GE20128 and 335GE21023 are affected. Consumers are advised to check the batch number on the packaging and, if in doubt, to contact their point of sale.

Coca-Cola Sugar Free 1L returnable glass bottles, sold at Carrefour, France Boissons and Le Fourgon. Only batches 337GE10002 and 337GE10038 are affected. Here again, consumers should check the batch number and contact their point of sale if necessary.

Rappel Conso indicates that these products have a “chlorate content that does not comply with quality standards” and recommends not consuming them but returning them to the store for a refund.

“We would like to point out that the analysis of independent experts has concluded that the probability of a risk associated with consumption is very low”, adds Coca-Cola Europacific Partners.

A telephone number has been set up for consumers: 09 69 39 29 00.
