MHR rugby player Mohamed Haouas in police custody in Montpellier for drunk driving

According to our information, the right pillar of the Montpellier club was arrested and taken into custody late Sunday morning, December 8. He was released mid-morning Monday with a summons to appear before the criminal court.

According to our information, Mohamed Haouas, right pillar of Montpellier Hérault Rugby, was taken into custody on Sunday, December 8, at the Montpellier police station, for drunk driving. The player was arrested after the alert was raised by passers-by around 11:30 a.m., on Avenue de Louisville in the Mosson district.

Unconscious in his car

A car was parked in a double line and in the wrong direction, with the engine running. Inside, an unconscious man was unresponsive while witnesses were tapping on the window. They broke a window to help him, before the municipal police arrived on the scene.

The rugby player's blood alcohol level was 1.8 g per liter of blood. He was placed in a drunk tank at the police station, before being questioned on the night of Sunday to Monday, December 9. Mohamed Haouas was released mid-morning, with a summons by a judicial police officer for February 4, for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The rugby player had left the MHR in the summer of 2023, after being sentenced to one year in prison for domestic violence. He had returned to the Montpellier club last summer.
