Microsoft announced the merger of Skype for Windows 10 and Skype for desktop. This approach will ensure uniform development, so users will be able to receive updates and improvements regardless of whether Skype downloaded from Microsoft Store or from the website skype.com. This information was published on the official support page of the service, reports 3dnews.
“Beginning in June 2020, 10 Skype for Windows and Skype for desktop is one, so we can ensure a uniform development. This allows us to provide the latest updates and improvements no matter what the source is installed,” — said in a message posted on the support page of Skype.
The United app continues to be called Skype for Windows 10. Now it has received a number of improvements that were not available before. The developers have updated the settings, closing the application, so you can now easily sign out of Skype or to stop it from auto-starting when you turn on the computer. Some improvements were made to appear in the tray icon, through which now users will be informed about incoming messages and presence status. In addition, users can share files directly from file Explorer, hold video calls with up to 9 people, change the background during calls, manage calls, etc.
Was also removed two functions which “are not supported on this platform”, but was available in the old Skype for desktop. We are talking about the possibility to send messages in chat or during a call using the “Share” button, and also functions sync your contacts list from Outlook. Obviously, these features will be added to the app soon.
