Mike Duheme named Acting RCMP Commissioner

Deputy Commissioner Mike Duheme has been named Acting Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Ottawa announced on the eve of Brenda Lucki's retirement.
Mike Duheme, who began his career with the RCMP as an investigator in Nova Scotia, has held many roles since, including as a member of the Emergency Response Team, with peacekeeping missions abroad and as commander of the National Division in Ottawa, reads a press release from the Department of Public Safety on Friday morning.
He will take office on March 18, the day after the retirement of Brenda Lucki, the 24th Commissioner of the RCMP and the first woman to hold this position.
The federal government will soon begin the process to find Brenda Lucki's replacement. We will be looking for an outstanding new leader who will keep our communities safe while advancing the reforms needed to maintain the trust of all Canadians, the statement reads.
I want to congratulate Deputy Commissioner Mike Duheme, said Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino. I am confident that his vast experience policing the country and around the world has prepared him well to lead our national police force.
