On January 20, the Millau Grands Causses tourist office was awarded the label by the company Emmène ton chien and became a reference destination for welcoming animals and their owners.

“With eight million dogs in France and nearly 80% of owners planning to take their pet on holiday in 2024, we can see today that the choice of tourist destinations and bookings are also made according to the welcome that can be reserved for their dog”, observes Christian Forir, the president of the tourist office.

This labelling is broken down into several concrete actions detailed by Nadine Tufféry, deputy in charge of animal welfare. “The establishment of canisites (spaces where dogs can do their business freely, Editor's note), the provision of 500,000 bags to collect dog droppings in 2024, the fight against animal abuse thanks to a specially trained officer from our municipal police force and the sterilisation of stray cats.”

Canitourism activities and welcome kit

Beyond making Millau a “destination for dogs”, the tourist office specifies having created a range of activities to do “for and with your dog” in order to “create memories with your animal”. On the program for dogs and their owners, an adventure at the Cité des pierres in Montpellier-le-Vieux, a refreshing canoe trip in the Gorges du Tarn or a sporty outing on the obstacle course of the viaduct area.

As a bonus, four-legged visitors can benefit, upon their arrival, from a welcome kit with a foldable bowl, frisbee, bandana collar and leaflet guide listing all the tourist activities and emergency numbers. “With all this, visitors and their dogs will be able to say wow-wow!”
