Les miss exposées au harcèlement dans leur scolarité, ou en ligne. COMITE MISS FRANCE
This Saturday, December 14, the 95th edition of Miss France takes place. The competition brings together millions of viewers every year. Just like Miss Languedoc, Jade Benazech, who will compete for the title, other Miss France contestants have not escaped school bullying about their appearance, which some continue to endure online, targeted by insults on social networks. A few chilling examples.
School bullying or bullying on social networks is a form of violence that can have serious repercussions on victims. Miss France contestants are no exception. Since people began speaking out, many Miss France contestants claim to have suffered this type of violence when they were young, which some continue to endure online. Targeted by insults on social networks, many of them are speaking out.
The defending champion, Cindy Fabre, said she noticed in the speeches of the regional candidates that there was “a lot of talk about school bullying”. “When you are Miss of your region, you are confronted with people's opinions, that's the game”.
Several contenders for the title of Miss France 2025 will carry a message of fight against harassment.
The 18-year-old young woman, who grew up between Hérault and Aude, will try this Saturday, December 14, to succeed Alexandra Rosenfeld, the last Miss Languedoc to have won the election. “Having been harassed for a long time about my height or my lips, I never imagined myself one day being a candidate. So representing our beautiful region is a form of revenge, even if I admit that I hesitated before committing, because I didn't want to experience that again”, she told us.
“When I was younger, I was even thinner than I am now and very tall. I was always the tallest in my class, whether it was girls or boys, and it's not common for a girl to be very tall. I often felt left out and alone, I received a lot of criticism”, she explained to Télé Loisirs. “Today, I have made it my strength. I am an ambassador of beauty, but also here as a spokesperson.”
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000Shortly after being elected, Sabah Aib, 18, denounced the “wave of racist hatred” she was subjected to on social media. The young girl had claimed her Algerian and Moroccan origins as well as her belonging to the French community.
Victim of many insults at school, Chana Goyons was rejected because of her height : “I was already 1m80 at 12. I was called anorexic at middle school, I was ostracized. I suffered a lot from it”
Karla Bchir (Miss Côte d’Azur 2023), victim of bullying, talks about how difficult it was to go to school with a knot in her stomach. “It's important to talk about it. It's a good thing that we talk about it more because in my day, I talked to my parents about it, but I didn't want to go see the principal. I would like to be able to warn young people about the dangers of bullying and do everything I can to stop it from getting worse. Bullying is crescendo, it starts with mockery, then insults and it can come to blows.”
Vaimalama Chaves, Miss France 2019, was a victim of bullying when she was a middle school student. When I arrived at middle school, it was very hard. I was lost in front of so many teachers, so many classrooms. I couldn't get into this rhythm. I gained weight because I couldn't be bothered to make an effort. My appearance was never a priority and I was very neglected,” she confided to Le Parisien.
Chiara Fontaine, Miss Roussillon 2022 was harassed about her curly hair in middle school. “I straightened my hair every morning, I had anxiety attacks when it rained. It was very hard for me”, the young woman recalls, to our colleagues at 20 Minutes. “It was taboo to talk about it at the time, today, I am proud. I want to get the message across to young people to take full responsibility for themselves and to speak out.”
At 19, Eva Navarro, aka Miss Provence 2021, took a stand against bullying at school, echoing the upheaval of her middle school years: “It was the mockery about my appearance that affected me a lot, to the point of leading to my dropping out of school for a year and my hospitalization.” The Miss Provence crown represented a “great revenge” for the young woman.
Recently elected Miss Curvy Franche-Comté 2024, Louise Brandt from Doubs will compete for the national title in April 2025. In the meantime, the 24-year-old, who lives in Vandoncourt (Montbéliard region), will use this platform to send strong messages against the harassment suffered by curvy people, report our colleagues from l'Est Républicain. Mocked about her figure during her adolescence, “clearly bullied at school”, wants to use her term to raise awareness about the fight against fatphobia.
The former Miss France 2016 and Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere has admitted to having been a victim of this scourge herself: “I was bullied from primary school to middle school: it was insults, hit under tables… aimed at my physique since at the time, I was very thin.”
