According to authorities, the mother took her two children on a turbulent journey, with stops in London, the Channel Island of Jersey in the English Channel, and a remote fishing village in Iceland before being found in Reykjavik.
“The children have been placed in the care of Icelandic social services until a trusted family member can recover”, the Marshals said.
The mother, meanwhile, “was placed in a hospital where she will remain until she is well enough to return to the United States,”, they added.
The search involved many actors, including the U.S. State Department, Interpol, the U.S. Center for Missing and Exploited Children, as well as British and Icelandic authorities.
