Mobilization to maintain evening service at the Fortierville emergency room

The Fortierville emergency room is currently open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The mayors of the MRC of Bécancour are launching a communication campaign in the hope of once again having access to so-called “dépanneurs” doctors at the&x27; emergency room in Fortierville, Centre-du-Québec.

Since the opening hours of the emergency room in Fortierville have been reduced, the center no longer has access to the provincial program of convenience store doctors. These are general practitioners who go to places where there is a dire shortage of doctors, with the aim of avoiding service disruptions.

With this advertising campaign , elected officials want to put pressure on the provincial government to regain the right to use repair doctors.

It is of paramount importance to keep our emergency room open, a declared Mario Lyonnais, prefect of the MRC of Bécancour, in an interview on the show Toujours le matin.

The campaign will cost approximately $25,000. The amount was confirmed Wednesday evening during the meeting of the mayors of the territory. The campaign will begin the week of August 8.

The troubleshooting mechanism consists of supporting the lack of medical staff, specifically in four sectors of activity (emergency, short-term, anesthesiology and obstetrics), in health establishments designated by the Joint Ministry Committee of Health and Social Services (MSSS)-Federation of General Practitioners of Quebec (FMOQ). This mechanism provides for the conditions of remuneration, reimbursement of time and reimbursement of travel expenses.

Until last November, 10 doctors worked at the Fortierville emergency room, but since then five of them have left. The emergency department therefore called on emergency doctors to provide service from 8:00 a.m. to midnight. However, this service has ceased to be offered at the establishment.

Last May, the members of the council of mayors learned that by offering more 24-hour emergency at the Multiservice Health and Social Services Center (CLSC) in Fortierville, he would no longer benefit from the right to call upon repair doctors, indicates the MRC in a press release.

Being given the lack of doctors and the end of the help of emergency doctors, the opening hours went from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on June 1st.

Outside these opening hours, people should go, for example, to Victoriaville, Trois-Rivières, Nicolet or Lévis.

Ministerial decree requested for the Fortierville emergency: Nicolet gives his support

The prefect of the MRC of Bécancour and mayor of Sainte-Françoise, Mario Lyonnais, announced that he will confirm his candidacy for the Conservative Party of Quebec on July 21.

He wants to run in the riding of Nicolet-Bécancour which is currently held by caquiste Donald Martel.

To know if the prefect feels in conflict of interest about the advertising campaign which should notably target the government of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), Mario Lyonnais affirms that he does what the public wants.

The population gave us that message, he says.

In an interview with Toujours le matin, Mr. Lyonnais confided that it was, among other things, the meeting he had with the leader of the party, Éric Duhaime, who has decided to make the leap into provincial politics.

The provincial elections are taking place on October 3, 2022.
