Montpellier company Washin is taking on the American market with its laundromat without a washing machine or dryer

La jeune entreprise montpelliéraine, spécialisée dans des solutions de laveries connectées par une application mobile, a présenté la semaine dernière son innovation au CES de Las Végas, le grand rendez-vous annuel mondial.

It's pretty daring. Imagine a laundromat without a washing machine and a dryer. This is, in short, the challenge taken up by Washin, a young company specializing in connected laundromat solutions via a mobile application, founded in 2019 and based in Baillargues. A connected laundromat, called NoLa and entirely driven by artificial intelligence. It is designed by Dimitri Belin and his teams.

“We have developed a new eco-responsible offer, which allows you to save on water and energy”, explains the founder of Washin. And for good reason, the laundromat claims unprecedented performance: it requires 95% less water (since it is recycled), consumes 66% less electricity for the washing part and 55% to dry the laundry. In addition, it takes 15 minutes to wash the clothes and 20 minutes to dry them.

“A unique solution for our customers”

To achieve these performances, Washin called upon artificial intelligence. “Everything is driven by robotics and AI, which allows us to offer a unique solution for our customers”, the founder adds. Its customers ? All places where a laundromat is necessary: ​​student residences, senior residences, campsites, holiday residences, communities.

A graduate of Montpellier Business School, Dimitri Belin launched his adventure after being “solicited by investors from Montpellier, who had several laundromats”. A financial contribution that allowed him to give himself time to find innovative solutions to his imagination and that of his teams (they are 12 employees today).

A contract with TotalEnergies

All his thinking was to imagine practical solutions to install laundromats in places where the needs are significant. Washin has just won a contract with the TotalEnergies group to install laundromats on motorway service areas for truck drivers.

In 2019, he had imagined a mobile application for students when they used laundromats. “This application allowed them to control the machine and saved them from having to take out money, the payment was made remotely. Parents could even pay the cost of the laundromat to their student child”.

Washin eyes the American market

With NoLa, Washin has disrupted the world of laundromats. “NoLa responds to 37 issues identified by our customers”. Beyond the presentation of this innovation in Las Vegas, Dimitri Belin is eyeing the entire American market. “It's the biggest market in the world for laundry”, he insists.

Tomorrow, “the thinking will focus on the industrialization of the NoLa concept”, he adds. Innovation arouses the interest of many customers. Industrialization will allow them to establish the development of NoLa, which should be gradually deployed from next September.
