MPs vote unanimously to temporarily double GST credit

The bill to temporarily double the GST rebate was passed today. It will be submitted to the Senate afterwards.

Federal MPs on Thursday unanimously passed a bill to temporarily double GST rebates to help the poorest Canadians. The bill will now be sent to the Senate.

The federal government has faced political pressure for months to give Canadians a break from rising inflation.

When the piece of legislation becomes law, those eligible for the GST rebate will receive a lump sum payment equivalent to the rebate checks that will be sent in October and January.

The Government s& #x27;expects it will take three to four weeks for payments to be released after Royal Assent is obtained.

Justin Trudeau's Liberals introduced measures to help Canadians deal with the rising cost of living.

This measure is part of a package of three new policies the Liberals introduced last month to help Canadians cope with the rising cost of living.

The other two measurements are a new dental benefit for children under 12 from less wealthy families and a one-time $500 housing allowance for low-income tenants.
