Tsai Ing-wen awarded Nancy Pelosi with the government medal “Order of Auspicious Clouds”. Taiwan intends to strengthen military ties with the United States to keep the Indo-Pacific region safe.

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi began a meeting with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen. This was reported by the Taiwanese TV channel TTV.

Before the start of the conversation, the President of Taiwan awarded Pelosi with the government's “Order of Auspicious Clouds” medal for her services to the development of relations between the two countries.

The United States is proud of its strong friendship with Taiwan and will not give up its support for the island, the speaker of the House of Representatives said in her speech.

“The US delegation came to Taiwan to make it clear that we will not abandon our commitment to Taiwan and are very proud of our friendship with this country,” Pelosi said.

The politician believes that at the moment, US solidarity with Taiwan is more important than ever. Cai Ing-wen called Pelosi Taiwan's truest friend.

“Taiwan will not back down in the face of China's ever-increasing military threats and will defend its sovereignty. After China's invasion of democratic Taiwan, the security of the entire Indo-Pacific region will be threatened,” – stressed the head of Taiwan.

According to her, Taiwan will do everything to strengthen the defense potential and ties with the United States in the field of security in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced the adoption of all necessary measures to vigorously defend its sovereignty.

China's People's Liberation Army announced military exercises around Taiwan amid Nancy Pelosi's visit. On the evening of August 2, 24 Chinese military J-11 and J-16 aircraft entered Taiwan airspace.
