New commander of the district Roman Berdnikov is a 1991 graduate of the Kyiv Suvorov Military School.

A new commander has been appointed in the Western Military District of the Russian Federation – Lieutenant General Roman Berdnikov. This is reported by RBC, citing its sources.

It is reported that Lieutenant General Roman Berdnikov was previously commander of the combined arms formation of the Eastern Military District, and later commanded a group of Russian troops in Syria. Berdnikov is a graduate of the Kyiv Suvorov Military School in 1991.

RBC also reports that the retired Colonel General Alexander Zhuravlev commanded the forces of the Western Military District since 2018, and before that, like Berdnikov, he commanded a group of forces in Syria.

From the first days of the war against Ukraine, Russia has been shelling Kharkiv with banned cluster munitions, which instantly destroyed houses and killed civilians. Colonel-General of the Russian Army Alexander Zhuravlev, who previously led one of the most brutal Russian operations in the Syrian war, commanded the actions of the invaders to capture the city.
