Poland may start building a barrier on the border with Russian Kaliningrad to stop the wave of migrants from Africa and Asia. This was stated by a high-ranking Polish official in a conversation with Reuters.

Warsaw accuses Moscow and Minsk of using migrants to destabilize Europe. After the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine, the migration crisis, which involved thousands of African and Central Asian citizens in 2021, may repeat.

The general secretary of the ruling Law and Justice party, Krzysztof Sobolevsky, said that the barrier could be built by analogy with the fence on the border with Belarus.

“We will have to strengthen the forces on this section of the border, consider the construction of border fortifications similar to those erected on the Polish-Belarusian section. Taking into account the opening of the sky over the Kaliningrad region for aircraft from Turkey, Syria and Belarus, this may happen in the coming weeks,” he said.

Poland has already built a steel barrier 5.5 meters high and about 187 km long on the border with Belarus, the fence is equipped with motion sensors and cameras. The border guards received money to build an electronic barrier of sensors and cameras on the border with the Kaliningrad region, the agency noted.

Russia is not against it

The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia would not hinder the implementation of these ideas.

“We cannot prevent, and we are not going to, the implementation of such decisions … History every time proves the stupidity of decisions to build walls, because over the years or decades, all walls fall,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

Airport in Kaliningrad operates in open skies

Russia has switched the airport in Kaliningrad to open skies from October 1 for flights from all over the world. Western experts talk about the possible preparation of a new refugee crisis from Syria to European countries through Kaliningrad.

Migrants from Belarus, Syria and Turkey can arrive in Kaliningrad. The border between Poland and the Kaliningrad region is 210 kilometers long. According to analysts, it is easy to pass because of the forest and the lack of rivers.

It's hard to believe that those who come from the Middle East or Africa would suddenly want to enjoy the tourist attractions of the Kaliningrad region, says Krzysztof Zhengota, an expert at the Institute of Political Sciences at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.

Lithuania fenced off from Belarus with a fence and barbed wire. The barrier was installed on sections of the border with a length of more than 50 kilometers.
