New Pokemon games break sales record for Nintendo

The newest Pokémon game series is set for the first time in an open world.

Just released, the new Pokémon video game diptych, Scarlet and Violet, exceeded 10 million copies sold – digital and physical copies combined – worldwide.

This is the highest level of worldwide sales for software on any Nintendo platform in the first three days, the Japanese company said Thursday by via press release.

Nearly half of purchases, or 4.05 million copies, were made in Japan, surpassing the record set by Splatoon 3 in this country just two months ago.

Available on the Switch console, this ninth generation of Pokémon games takes place for the first time in an open world, in which followers of the series can hunt small monsters from pocket.

Only two other video games have better sales figures for a three-day period: Cyberpunk 2077, launched in 2020, and Grand Theft Auto V in 2013, which sold no less than 16,500,000 copies in 72 hours.
