More: War? Refugee? Let's help!” But what about those who left their soul in their homeland, the work of their whole life? How will the new shelter help those who have left themselves at home?

ESSENCE Theater Studio presents the premiere of VOX IN DESERTO based on a story written by young Israeli playwright, Columbia University student Didi Tal. Two refugee actors in a new country play Shakespeare's King Lear, where the sidewalk serves as a stage and discarded trash and old cardboard boxes serve as scenery. The mixture of the horrific reality of refugees from a country in which there is a war and the uplifting poetry of Shakespearean depth is a reality and an absurdity that allows two geniuses to find a new home for the spirit. The shelter where the house is always with you. The house, whose name is the theater!..

Vox In Deserto (from Latin “voice in the desert”) – a popular expression from the Torah “The voice of one crying in the desert”, which has become a symbol of the desperate call of a man whom no one can or doesn't want to hear.

The performance was a hit with critics, audiences, and theater journalists in Los Angeles and New York.

“Everyone should see”, “Got crazy from & # 8220; Notes of a madman & # 8221;” — these are just some of the headlines in the American press.

The production won the LA Weekly theater award for the best one-man show.

“This is one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen in my life! » Oscar-nominated actress Sally Kirkland said about Madman's Notes.

The hero of Notes of a Madman is Aksenty Poprishchin, a petty Petersburg official. At the beginning of the “Notes” he describes his life and work, then he talks about his feelings for the director's daughter, and soon after that, signs of his insanity begin to appear. After a few days, he completely breaks away from reality and begins to understand that he is the king of Spain. The further, the more the hero plunges into the depths of his fantasy. At the end, his recordings completely lose their meaning and turn into a set of phrases.

The role of Poprishchin in the performance was played by a famous actor, a graduate of the Moscow Art Theater School, an immigrant from Ukraine, Ilya Volokh.

He has appeared in 150 American motion pictures and television series. Among them are such popular ones as Air Force One, U-Turn, Indiana Jones-4, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Soloist, Immigrant, Pawn Sacrifice, Water for Elephants, Mission Impossible 4 with Tom Cruise, Abduction with Alfred Molina, GI JOE-2 with Bruce Willis.
