Former Chinese leader Hu Jintao was escorted from the closing ceremony of the Communist Party Congress on October 22. This is reported by the journalists of the American television channel CNN.

Hu Jintao, 79, was sitting in the front row of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing next to incumbent President Xi Jinping when a member of the staff approached him to escort him out of the building. At first, the official did not want to leave his seat, but they lifted him by force, taking his hand.

According to reporters, after Hu Jintao got up from his chair in the presidium, Kong Shaoxun, deputy director of the Central Administration of the Communist Party, approached him. After a short conversation, the former head of China nevertheless left, saying a few words to Xi Jinping along the way and patting Premier Li Keqiang on the shoulder – both nodded, but the content of their conversation remains a mystery. Hu Jintao's departure has not been officially explained.

CNN journalists noticed that Xi Jingping put his hand on the document that Hu Jintao was trying to reach. In addition, Li Zhanshu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, tried to stand up and intervene in the conversation, but colleague Wang Huning, who was sitting nearby, pulled his jacket.

Hu Jintao was the chairman of the People's Republic of China from 2003 to year 2013. He appeared at the opening of the Communist Party Congress with completely gray hair, and his departure was an unusual moment for the closing day of the event, which is usually procedural.

The Congress of the Communist Party, the 20th in a row, lasted a week with 2,300 delegates and ended on Saturday, October 22. As a result, changes were approved in the party charter, there were personnel changes in the political elite: about 200 members of the Central Committee changed their posts. The final event will take place the day before the announcement of the new senior leadership of the party. Xi Jinping is expected to be re-elected as General Secretary for a third term, allowing him to become China's ruler again in March 2023.

Xi Jinping's speech at the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China has also been reported. He said that in the next five years, the Chinese should vigorously develop the economy and resolve the issue with Taiwan.
