The new image of a pair of galaxies was created using data in infrared light obtained by Webb, as well as in the visible and ultraviolet light produced by Hubble.

NASA has published a new amazing image of space. The image shows two galaxies that make up a pair called VV 191. This pair consists of a bright elliptical galaxy and a spiral galaxy. In order to get a complete picture of the processes taking place here, the Webb telescope used data from the aging Hubble telescope, Forbes writes.

In a new image from the Webb Space Telescope, scientists saw new previously unknown details of two galaxies that are relatively close, but do not actively interact with each other.

The preliminary data obtained by the Hubble telescope in ultraviolet and visible light did not allow us to fully see the features of this pair of galaxies. But infrared data from the Webb Telescope showed in more detail the long, dusty spiral arms of the spiral galaxy.

According to scientists, it seems that these arms are blocked to some extent by a bright elliptical galaxy that is nearby.

The scientists chose these two galaxies for the study because they can help to study the properties of galactic dust and compare it in different galaxies. Dust changes the brightness and colors of galaxies, and therefore it is important to know about its nature and distribution. NASA said in a statement that dust is partly responsible for the formation of new stars and planets, and therefore the study of its presence is important for further scientific research.

Initially, this galaxy was not visible in the Hubble images and only Webb instruments were able to see it. Also in the new image, you can distinguish other more distant galaxies that were previously invisible in Hubble photographs.

According to scientists, with the help of new images, they received even more information than they expected. This happened thanks to the combination of data from two space telescopes.

Focus already wrote that the Webb telescope was able to see the structures of a distant galaxy in a way that the Hubble telescope could not.
