Oblates seek to expel Father Rivoire, accused of sex crimes in Nunavut

The congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) announced Wednesday in Lyon, in the south-east of France, that x27;it was initiating proceedings to “dismiss” one of its members, 92-year-old Father Joannes Rivoire, accused of sexually assaulting young Inuit in Canada in the 1960s.

< p class="e-p">We have started a procedure of canonical dismissal, because Father Rivoire stubbornly refuses to obey our order and to present himself to Canadian justice, announced to the press Father Gruber, provincial of the Oblates from France, on the sidelines of the visit of a delegation of Inuit who came to support an extradition request filed by Ottawa against the Franco-Canadian religious.
