Norwegian ship Ocean Viking non-governmental organization SOS Mediterranee received permission from the Italian authorities on the landing of 180 migrants on the shore of Sicily. “We received instructions from the naval authorities of Italy, according to which you want to land the migrants in the port city of Porto Empedocle”, – stated in the NGO statement, which also notes that currently the ship is sent to this port and should reach him on Monday.
On 3 July it became known that the Ocean Viking appealed to the Italian authorities due to the deterioration of the situation of migrants on Board. Many of them demanded that the ship landed on the shores of Italy. However, the Italian government has warned that it will detain the ship if it enters the port.
Work to find and rescue migrants in the Mediterranean sea Norwegian vessel after a three-month hiatus resumed in late June.
