
One dead and one arrested after a shooting in a First Nation in Ontario
Police authorities are investigating. They believe this is an isolated incident and there is no public safety concern.
One person was killed and another was arrested after a Sunday afternoon shooting at Wiikwemikoong First Nation on Manitoulin Island.
Upon arrival, officers were told one person had been shot and that the suspect had fled.
Brandon Trudeau Pheasant, 25, from Wiikwemikoong Unceded Territory, died of his injuries.
Tyran Armstrong, 18, of M'Chigeeng First Nation, was arrested and charged with first degree murder and remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on February 21.
