Daimler Phoenix 8HP of 1898 was brought to Ukraine by Baron Nikolay von Meck.
Rare photos of Daimler Phoenix 8HP got on the Internet. The vintage car was removed in 1898 near Kyiv and this is one of the first cars that appeared on the territory of Ukraine. This is reported by Auto-Consulting.
Daimler Phoenix 8HP belonged to Baron Nikolai von Meck, the manager of the railway company. We photographed a car in his estate in the village of Kopylov near Kyiv (now it is the Buchansky district). This mansion has survived to this day, although its condition leaves much to be desired.
The daughter of the Baron Galina wrote in her biographical book that the Daimler Phoenix 8HP was one of the first cars in the country. At first, the baron's servants could not figure out the principle of operation of the car, and during a trip to Kyiv, the loud sound of the engine of a self-propelled carriage frightened the horses on the road.
Baron von Meck later became an avid motorist. He changed cars several times and signed up as a member of the Kyiv club of motorists.
It should be noted that the first car in Ukraine appeared in 1896 – it was purchased for the Kyiv district of ways and communications. A year later, another car was brought to Kyiv. However, photos of these cars have not survived to this day, so the Daimler Phoenix 8HP is the oldest surviving photo of a car in Ukraine.
Daimler Phoenix was produced from 1897 to 1902 and it was the first front-engined model of the brand. A feature of the car was the tubular radiator developed by Wilhelm Maybach, which significantly improved engine cooling. iz-pervyh-avtomobilej-v-ukraine-foto-4c35333.jpg” alt=”One of the first cars in Ukraine was shown on the Internet (photo)” />
