An intervention by the Sûreté du Québec in Louiseville, Mauricie, took a dramatic turn in the evening on Monday. An individual seriously injured a policewoman from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) during her arrest before being shot himself by other agents.

According to the Investigations Bureau (BEI), the entity responsible for shedding light on police interventions where a person is injured or killed, two SQ officers moved around 8:30 p.m. to arrest an individual for threats .

The latter would then have seized a bladed weapon and brandished it towards the police. He would have seriously hit an officer who was making the arrest. A second pair of police officers dispatched to the scene would then have fired at the place of the individual, fatally hitting him.

Five investigators from the BEI were assigned to investigate the circumstances of the intervention, specifies the Bureau in a brief press release. The BEI also indicates that the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal is conducting a criminal investigation into these events.
