Avatar is set to be released in a range of different formats, including higher definition, higher frame rate (HFR), 3D, IMAX and other PLF formats, as well as audio adaptations. As for the continuation of the film “The Way of Water”, they intend to translate it into 160 languages of the world.

This is not surprising, because the original “Avatar” (2009) was the first film that crossed the border of $ 2 billion. And today it is the highest-grossing film in history with $2.8 billion (temporarily taken away from Avengers: Endgame in 2019). Audience rating – 9.2.

Background. “Avatar”, James Cameron and Hindu gods

James Cameron admits that the inspiration for the creation of the blue-skinned Navi from the planet Pandora was the pantheon of Hindu gods. From there, in fact, the term “avatar” is taken.

“An avatar is a bodily embodiment of one of the Hindu gods,” the director shared his secrets. “But in the film, it means that in the future people will learn put human consciousness in a distant biological body.I am in love with the mythology of Hinduism, but did not want to refer to its ideas too explicitly, I was interested in building a subconscious connection with Hinduism.”

This connection is indicated by the blue skin color of the Navi – the color of the sixth chakra-clairvoyance (it is also the chakra of the third eye) – high spirituality, like the ancient Indian king Rama (the seventh avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu) and Krishna (the eighth avatar).

Navi from second-hand and the inhabitants of the planet Pandora

What does the word “Navi” mean, you know? I once went to the Kyiv second-hand, which are now immeasurably bred. A woman is standing with a dress in her hands and says to the saleswoman: “Can I lower the price?” – “I do not solve these issues,” she answers. “I'll call the director now.” And shouts towards the back door: “Navi, please come out!”

Oh, I started up, I think that now such a blue, four-meter monster will come out! And from there a little Syrian jumps out: “What's the matter?” – “Here the woman asks to give in” – “Yes, please,” Navi does a courtesy. It turned out “Navi” – an ordinary Arabic name meaning “contact”. Just the Navi live in unity with nature, communicate with animals, pray to the holy Tree of Souls, which has a connection with the mother goddess Eywa, who permeates everything on Pandora.

It is curious that mental-emotional contact among natives and animals is achieved with the help of a kind of panicle with moving threads. When the panicles meet, mutually penetrating the threads, it is difficult to get rid of the feeling that all this resembles an ordinary … USB connector. I don’t think that Cameron did it on purpose, it’s just that this detail is an indicator of the “computerized” consciousness of modern man, which the author generally criticizes.

Navi – the inhabitants of the planet Pandora (by the way, also a symbolic name) – the director gave oriental features (Hindus, Arabs), opposing them to computerized and robotic, soulless destructive earthlings, who personify the technically powerful, materialistic West.

“People with greater military and technological power can displace or destroy weaker people, and all for the sake of resources,” the director said, emphasizing that in “Avatar” he criticized the impersonal nature of the US mechanized war on Iraq. In a fantastic tape, it was as if a war had unfolded between the West and the East. Many viewers noted that the fall of the House Tree resembles the fall of two skyscrapers of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, it turned out like a retaliatory move, the “revenge” of the West on the East.

Despite the large number of original finds, Cameron borrowed a lot colleagues in Hollywood. The plot move, when a crippled soldier becomes his own for the enemy, is taken from “Dancing with Wolves”, where the “pale-faced” became his own for the Indians. And the genre of the film itself is borrowed from “Star Wars” by George Lucas, which should be discussed separately.

Avatar Formula

So, the vertical of the film is Navi (elements of Hinduism and the Arab world), the horizontal is earthlings (machine technology, consumer psychology), the intersection point between them is Jake Sully, a marine spy, transformed into Navi. As American critics joked, he is the tenth avatar – right after the Buddha.

The lead actor Sam Worthington remarked: “There is a heart in Avatar. This is the main special effect of the picture.” Cameron added: “If the film has a conscience, it does not allow him to slide into the attraction.”

The marine, having learned the spiritual life of the Navi, goes over to the side of the aliens. Not the last role, of course, was played by his blue girlfriend – Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana. And in general, the effect of the shifter in “Avatar” is that we should, as it were, root for the earthlings, but all our sympathies slowly flow to the Navi, and we begin to sympathize with them – along with the main character.

The origin of the

Earthlings criminally fill up a huge Tree-House, but the Tree of Souls, which connects all the creatures of the inhabitants of Pandora between themselves and the goddess Avoy, rallied the natives. They offer powerful resistance to earthly aggressors and win. Near the Tree of Souls, Sally's soul from the human body – a disabled infantryman – passes into the body of an avatar. The Tree of Souls and the goddess Eyva defeat the machine thinking of earthlings!

Here is a metaphor and a symbol – the infantryman was disabled not only physically, but also spiritually (so mercilessly sarcastically Cameron shows humanity). But he grew up, becoming Navi – both literally and spiritually!

What will the film “Avatar-2” be like
