The Percy Jackson novels are getting a new series adaptation, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, for Disney+.

Years after the great era of Conan the Barbarian, Dark Crystal or Kalidor: The Legend of the Talisman, fantasy is making a comeback, not in the cinema, but rather in series. While the genre never died out completely and Peter Jackson probably played something in it, the year 2022 proved the resurgence of fantasy cinema, for better according to some, but almost only for worse.

While the series was acclaimed by many viewers, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (which will return for a second season), was a big disappointment for some, as was the awful Willow,a series that attempted to follow up on Ron Howard's 1988 heroic fantasy stalwart. 2022.

If in the years to come the offshoots of these commercial successes (and critical for House of the Dragon) will hatch, we will soon be entitled to Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a series based on the fantasy novels by Rick Riordan who serves as showrunner of the Disney+ series. Wanting to be more faithful to the novels than the films Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, released in 2010 and 2013, the series will follow the adventures of Percy, a twelve-year-old boy played by young actor Walker Scobell (Adam Through Time), a demigod tasked with restoring the 'order in Olympus.

Even if the series is still very mysterious and before discovering the first images it is impossible to know if this reboot is a good idea or not,the creator of the series gave some information on the series and in particular on a characteron his Mastodon social network:

“Wrestler, one who practices the sport of coraíocht. I think of that because of some great scenes that Adam Copeland filmed for us recently as Ares, the god of war. As they said in the ads for the monster truck rallies of my youth: “You can pay for the whole seat, but you only need the edge!” »

By this allusion, Rick Riordan seems to mean that the series will be so tense or impressive that we will not be able to sit still in our seat. Despite its very adolescent side, especially since this time the main actors will really be played by children, Percy Jackson and the Olympians could turn out to be more violent than expected especially since to play Ares, the showrunner called on Adam Copeland.

WWE wrestler, Copeland recently came to prominence for his role as Ketill Flatnose in the last seasons of the series Vikings. A wrestler for a muscular series? It remains to be seen if, as almost promised by Rick Riordan, the Percy Jackson series will be entitled to great action sequences. To discover Percy Jackson and the Olympians you will still have to be patient since the series should arrive at the beginning of the year 2024.
