The mayor of Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), Christian Estrosi, has decided to impose the wearing of masks in certain areas of the city to deal with the severe flu epidemic affecting the city.

This Tuesday, the city hall of Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), launched a call for vigilance and compliance with barrier gestures following the flu epidemic that is increasing in the city, and across France, according to Le Figaro.

The city also encourages the wearing of masks, and even makes them mandatory in certain public places in the city, according to a press release. Municipal agents affected by the flu, as well as staff and visitors to nursing homes will have to wear them over their noses until further notice.

Still according to our colleagues, the city's hospital center is talking about “a significant influx of patients”, with 35% of them testing positive for the flu.

“No more beds available”

The situation is very complicated, in fact, “currently no more beds are available in public and private establishments in our territory”, according to the municipality. The white plan has not yet been activated. This is a system, triggered by the director of the establishment, which allows the definition of crisis management procedures. Among other things, it allows the postponement of certain operations deemed non-priority in the face of the emergency situation.

“The health and well-being of all in the coming days depend on compliance with these few gestures. If the epidemic were to worsen, I would call an exceptional local health council”, said Christian Estrosi.

The city is also encouraging those over 75 to get vaccinated against the virus.
