In PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, 100 players are parachuted onto a huge map and battle it out until a single survivor prevails.
The popular battle royale game PUBG Mobile follows in the footsteps of rival Fortnite by bringing its players a virtual concert featuring Korean pop girl group Blackpink.
This is a desire on the part of the publisher of the PUBG Mobile game, the giant Tencent Games, to expand [its ever-evolving world]” , according to a press release.
Several concert dates are scheduled for July 22, 23, 29 and 30 in North and South America, and elsewhere in the world on July 23, 24, 30 and 31. Tickets, free, will be offered in the game from Friday, July 15. Players who wish to attend the event will also need to obtain a set of special resources before it.
Virtual costumes (skins) created for the occasion will be available in the game from July 23, and can be worn for a limited time, until the end of August.
This series of concerts marks a strong comeback of Korean pop group Blackpink, whose most recent album dates back to 2020. The formation plans to unveil in PUBG Mobile a special track and a new music video designed and created especially for this collaboration. Blackpink also plans to release new songs before the end of the summer.
Seeing cultural events in a video game is becoming more commonplace, with Fortnite leading the way. The game platform has hosted several short film dates, called Short Nite. The game, very popular with young people, also welcomed singer Ariana Grande and rapper Travis Scott to its virtual stage.
The Roblox gaming platform also hosted Lil Nas X in 2020, a concert that has accumulated some 33 million views.
