A 21-year-old woman lives in Israel and has been diagnosed with a rare phobia. Odiya Cohen has been suffering from omphalophobia since childhood – a fear of his own navel, and in some cases, the navels of other people. This is reported by the Israeli news website Ynet.

Experts discovered that 21-year-old Cohen had a phobia after she decided to talk about her fears to a friend who studied at the medical faculty and wrote a thesis on various phobias. The Israeli woman said that since childhood she had mixed feelings about her navel. With age, this turned into a real phobia – Odaya is afraid to go to the beach or to the pool, and when he takes a shower, he does not touch his stomach.

“The navel caused me fear exactly as long as I can remember. And this is fear mixed with disgust. About the same as some people feel for mice or cockroaches. But only cockroaches can be removed, but the navel is not,” she admitted.

The woman told her parents about her fears in childhood, but they did not pay attention to it, however, the older Odaya became, the more rare a phobia interfered with her everyday life. Even when she got married, her fears were reflected in family life – when a husband wants to scratch his stomach, he goes into another room, because Odaya cannot calmly watch someone touch his stomach. The husband also took on the responsibility of bathing the newly born child.

At first, Odaya thought that she just had some kind of special strangeness, but then she found out on the Internet about a rare phenomenon – omphalophobia. The woman turned to psychologists, who suggested that she undergo a course of treatment, but it seemed to her too long. The fact is that it takes a long time to overcome a phobia. Fear can be eliminated either through regular meditation or through gradual contact with the fear-causing factor. Therefore, Odiya decided to live as before, just not paying too much attention to her navel and the navel of other people.
