Ratified agreement ends strike by safety standards inspectors

Inspectors from the Technical Standards and Safety Board of Ontario (TSSA) include Boiler and Pressure Vessels, Elevating and Amusement Appliances, and Fuels.

The Union representing the Inspectors of the Technical and Safety Authority (TSSA) announces that its members have ratified their new collective agreement, ending an 11-week strike.

The Section Local 546 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/SEFPO) announced on Friday that a tentative agreement had been reached between the parties.

Its 170 members, who inspect elevating devices, boilers, pressure vessels and across the province, walked off the job in July after months of fruitless negotiations.

What these safety inspectors have shown us on the picket lines is a profound solidarity,” said Laurie Nancekivell, first vice-president and treasurer of OPSEU/SEFPO, in a press release.

Among the main points in dispute were salaries and benefits, understaffing and accountability for compliance with Agency security standards and practices.
