As the “Money” portal reminds us, everyone will experience the effects of high prices, rampant inflation and an increase in electricity prices. In the context of the latter, little is said about the inhabitants of the blocks of flats. In their case, in addition to the payment for electricity used in the apartments, they also pay for electricity used in the common areas. The increase in rent was influenced by elevator charges and ventilation. It is estimated that on a monthly basis, it is even several dozen zlotys.

Residents of blocks of flats have to pay both for electricity in their premises and in common areas. Many cooperatives will pay 300 or even 400 percent more for electricity in common parts from January 2023. The residents of the block asked the Ombudsman to intervene in their case. The Commissioner for Human Rights asked the climate ministry whether the residents of the blocks would be protected against increases.

“The possibilities of introducing new potential support mechanisms, which will help citizens in the upcoming heating season, are analyzed on an ongoing basis” – representatives of the Ministry of Climate responded to the ROP's inquiry.

The Energy Regulatory Office indicates that the residents of blocks of flats in cooperatives and housing associations are in the G tariff group. This group includes both individual consumers who use electricity in their homes, for lighting buildings, as well as, inter alia, to power the lifts in blocks.
