Resolute sawmill workers vote for new contract

A total of eight sawmills are affected by this agreement.

The approximately 1000 employees who work in one or other of the eight Resolute Forest Products sawmills in Quebec have just voted for the agreement in principle reached with the employer in mid-July.

The sawmills affected by this vote are those of Girardville, La Doré, Mistassini, Normandin, Saint-Thomas, Comtois, Maniwaki and Outardes.

Workers voted 67% for the new contract. They have held general meetings over the past few days for the occasion.

The sawmill of Saint-Thomas in Lac-Saint-Jean is one of the eight sawmills affected by this agreement.

According to the Unifor union, this four-year collective agreement will serve as a model for all Quebec sawmills.

Even though this is a good working contract, our members had huge expectations due to the high profitability of the sawmill sector today . I want to thank the members of the negotiation committee who did a remarkable job throughout the process, indicated in a press release the one who acted as negotiator and spokesperson for the negotiations, Renaud Gagné.

The agreement includes, among other things, salary increases, improvements to the group insurance plan and the addition of a third week of vacation after two years of work. A female representative will also be appointed in each facility.
