In February 2022, the technology company announced ChromeOS Flex, a free-to-download operating system that simplifies the user's computer experience. The company has now released the final version after testing and making improvements based on user feedback.

What is ChromeOS Flex

This the system is cloud-based, making it quick and easy to install on older computers via USB, while background updates prevent slowdowns, the company explains in a statement.

It provides protection against threats such as “malware” and “ransomware” as well as “employee errors” and consumes 19% less power than other devices.

Google has highlighted the operating system's role in reducing e-waste by giving aging Windows and Mac computers a second life.

To date, the company has certified 295 ChromeOS Flex compatible devices from these brands like Apple, Acer, Dell, Microsoft, Minisforum, Zotac or Advantech and many more. However, the absence of this certification does not prevent the installation of the operating system on the computer.

How to install

There is a separate download page for companies. It must contain company data, the number of employees and phone numbers.

For ordinary users, just download the Chromebook utility in the Chrome browser and follow the instructions to burn the image to a USB flash drive.
