ATLANTA (AP) – Brendan Rodgers broke the tie with a two-run homer in the fifth act, Trevor Story homered in the second and the Colorado Rockies beat the Atlanta Braves 5-4 on Tuesday night.
Jon Gray covered five innings for the Rockies, far behind in the NL West, who improved to 22-51 on the road after winning a four-game series in Philadelphia.
Atlanta, the leader of the East Division, started the night with a four and a half game lead over Philadelphia. The Braves, seeking their fourth straight division title, had won five of seven games.
In the ninth inning, Atlanta put two men on the trails, before Carlos Estévez forced Cuban Jorge Soler to lift a balloon, to claim his eighth save in 13 attempts.
Gray (8-10) improved to a 4-0 record with a 2.74 ERA in seven career starts against Altanta. The right-hander allowed two runs and five hits, with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Touki Toussaint (3-3) was the defeated.
For the Rockies, Raimel Tapia 5-1 with a run scored. The Venezuelan Elías Díaz 4-1.
For the Braves, Cuban Soler 5-1 with a run scored. Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario 3-0. The Venezuelan Ehire Adrianza 1-0.
