I believe that the Lozère farmers wanted to say stop to congestion, stop to cronyism. It is a victory for our list, obviously, but it is above all a victory for the Lozère farmers. From now on, the Chamber of Agriculture will be open in the same way for all farmers. With us, the opposition elected representatives will have their place. The press will be invited to the sessions of the Chamber. This was not necessarily the case before. This is – I think – what caused the loss of the so-called majority union which, today, is no longer so.
What was the recipe for this victory? ?
We were a mobilized team. We had chosen to make an opening. It clearly paid off.
You ran a very high-profile campaign. Do you think it was your shock actions that paid off??
We didn’t take any sudden action. We have to stop that. We took targeted action. We were there. Just look at what happened all summer regarding predation. Personally – and I’m not the only one – I made eight shooting reports, eight reports with the French Biodiversity Office (OFB) on attacks. I think that all of that, after a while, weighs. People realized that we were on the ground. As always, we were accused of being out for the last six months. It must be said that before, we had nothing to do since we had no commission…
Will you be the new president of the chamber?
Let me reserve the exclusivity of this announcement for our members. I can simply tell you that the president is among the first five on the list.
What do you say to those who say that the Rural Coordination is a far-right union or even an extremist organization? ?
I am happy that you asked me this question. The Rural Coordination is an apolitical union. With my co-president, at the time of the dissolution of the National Assembly (in June 2024, Editor's note), we contacted all the candidates for deputy. Three responded to us: Dja Zidoun, Sophie Pantel, Pierre Morel-À-L'Huissier. We did not meet the candidate of Résistons (Michel Guiral). We didn’t meet the National Rally candidate (Luc-Étienne Gousseau). We didn’t meet the Lutte Ouvrière candidate (Annie Souchon). On the other hand, other unions met them. So, it’s a bit easy to come and hit us on this subject. I’m straight in my votes. I have no problem with that.
