Sandy Alcántara, the Marlins ace who won the game. He won the National League Cy Young Award last season, received the National League Cy Young Award. The keys to the city of Miami were handed over to Mayor Francis Suárez on Tuesday.

“His dedication has influenced hundreds, if not thousands of people in our community,” Suárez said, standing next to Alcántara and Marlins general manager Kim Ng. “And he has established himself as a positive leader and role model.”

Suárez testified also that the 10th of January will be “Sandy Alcántara Day” in Miami.

Alcántara, 27, made history as the first Marlins pitcher to win the Cy Young Award. He did it.


He was the 15th pitcher to win the award by unanimous vote, and he has said he hopes to win more.

“It's a great day,” the Dominican. “I will never forget it. This key means a lot to me. in my life.”

With about a month to go before the Marlins begin spring training, Alcéntara has said that while he's out there, he's going to be in the game. Healthy next season, he is confident in his ability to emulate what he did in 2022, when he posted a 2.28 ERA.

His six complete games were the most in the majors. I've been since Chris Sale made it. He had six in 2016. His innings pitched and 14 wins were the best stats of his career.
