Saudi Arabia announces $400 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine | War in Ukraine
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (archive)
Saudi Arabia announced humanitarian aid on Saturday $400 million for kyiv, and its Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, spoke on the phone to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the official SPA news agency reported.
The prince underlined the kingdom's position to support anything that will contribute to de-escalation, and the kingdom's will to pursue mediation efforts, SPA said.
In September, Riyadh had played an unexpected role of mediator, resulting in an exchange of prisoners between Moscow and kyiv.
The war in Ukraine, however, has fueled tensions between Saudi Arabia and the United States, with the kingdom refusing to increase oil production as the Washington would have liked to alleviate the energy crisis resulting from the conflict.
Riyadh has even come under increasing criticism from the United States following OPEC's decision, along with Saudi Saudi Arabia in the first place, but also Russia and other allies, of a drastic reduction in production, which could drive energy prices even higher.
