Scandal in the Vatican
On Thursday, November 24, the media was informed that one of the cardinals, without the knowledge of Pope Francis recorded a conversation with him. The situation took place in July last year, and the interlocutor of the Holy Father was Cardinal Angelo Becciu. The Italian press published a transcript of the recording.
Becciu is one of the persons under investigation before the Vatican Tribunal for alleged financial irregularities. One of the most famous aspects of the case is the purchase by the Vatican of a luxurious tenement house in London, which was to be purchased with, among others, funds for the pope's charitable activities.
After the scandal broke out, the tenement house was sold, and the Vatican lost as much as 90 million pounds on the transaction. It is worth noting that there are also other proceedings against Cardinal Becciu, in which he is accused of being active in a criminal group.

In the private belongings of Cardinal Becciu, a recording of a conversation between the priest and Pope Francis was found. It was registered last summer, shortly after Pope Francis underwent major bowel surgery in 2021. It turns out that the recording was recorded by third parties who allegedly acted in agreement with Cardinal Becciu.
The recording lasts 5 minutes and we hear the accused cardinal accusing the pope of having already convicted him and the trial not is not needed at all. The transcript of the conversation shows that Becciu is trying to get confirmation that the pope has agreed to pay a ransom for a nun kidnapped in Mali who was abducted by jihadists.
The transcript shows that the pope rather denies. The recording also shows that Francis is still not fully recovered from the surgery he underwent at the time.
