Alexandra LEVIT, “FACTS” (Odessa)
On Friday, June 19, when the sky over the Kiev said reminiscent of a nuclear mushroom cloud, Odessa citizens and guests of the city watched no less rare.
It arose suddenly and completely aroused mixed reactions from curious – enthusiastic to not a little frightening.
At first, people began shouting “Tsunami! Tsunami!..” Here came the verbal disclaimers: “a Tsunami is when the waves are swamping everyone and everything…”. Here in the power of the elements was not so much the sea as the sky.
In a matter of minutes it began to change the tone and color scheme. Upstairs, there was the bizarre growths of different density and shades. They flowed, swept, “grouped”. In a word, fascinated and, frankly, alarmed…
Fortunately, there were no terrible accidents and disasters. The social network was filled with pictures and videos of what is happening, but to explain really, no one could.
According to experts-hydrologists, in fact people saw an unusual and rare phenomenon — squally gate.
“It’s really impressive, experts say. — It is not surprising that many in social media called seen a tornado, tsunami, and even the Apocalypse.”
We are talking about the so-called Chkalova collar phenomenon that forms under thunderclouds. It acquires different forms. Sometimes half rings, and sometimes rings.
Squally gate (sometimes referred to as another lightning shaft) — unusual and very striking phenomenon.
Most often, this “gate” appears before the storm. Formed when cool downdrafts at high speed push the warmer air up. Accompanied by strong winds. Behind him is always in the afternoon.
Earlier, the “FACTS” wrote that in the Zaporozhye region in may was seen a more dangerous phenomenon — a tornado, the height of which reached several hundred meters.
