Scholz named another reason for the refusal to supply tanks for the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Berlin takes into account the opinion of the Germans, who are against sanctions and arms supplies to Ukraine, Scholz said.
Berlin does not supply tanks to Ukraine because the authorities take into account the opinion of citizens who do not agree with the policy of sanctions and the supply of weapons. This was announced by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in an interview with Welt.
Scholz recalled that with the help of a circular exchange, Germany ensured the delivery of more than 100 tanks to Ukraine, which can be used there immediately: from the Czech Republic, from Slovakia, from Slovenia , from Greece.
“Logistics, spare parts, ammunition for these tanks of Russian or post-Soviet production are in Ukraine. We are trying to supply from other countries. But the fact remains: the question of what weapons we supply is based on very a clear principle – not to act alone,” he said.
In addition, as the chancellor noted, it is important for him to maintain the unity of German society.
“My impression of communicating with citizens: between 20 and 30 percent do not agree with either the sanctions policy or the supply of weapons. Among them are voters from almost all political directions, from the CDU/CSU, the FDP, the Greens, as well as from the SPD,” he said.
“I argue with those who doubt and explain the reasons for our decisions so that in this convinced both of them. Too many believe that the government's measured course is the right one. So the opinion is very broad. We must not lose sight of this if we want to stick together as a society,” Scholz explained.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that by the spring of 2023, Germany will train up to five thousands of military personnel. This is enough to equip a full-fledged new brigade.
