Valery LEBOVKA, “FACTS”
Many researchers is the question of how to slow the aging process and even start the process of rejuvenation.
And their weighty word in this matter seem to be able to say molecular biologists at the University of California in San Francisco (USA).
In particular, they found that the liver physically active people and mice produces a large amount of Gpld1 protein, which rejuvenates the brain and improves cognitive functions. The results of their study published the scientific journal Science, says Rumblepoker.
“Honestly, I did not expect that we will open the molecule, which is associated with almost all the positive aspects of the impact of charging on the brain. We thought that physical exercises may cause many small changes in his work that brings a big plus. So I was absolutely amazed by the first results of our experiments, “—said one of the study’s authors, associate Professor, University of California, San Francisco (USA) Saul Villeda.
Villeda and many other molecular biologists have been examining how our body burns calories during regular exercise and during other physical activities. In particular, researchers are interested in those genes and proteins that make our body to use as fuel for muscles than glucose, and fats after the sugar reserves are depleted.
Substances that control the operation of these sections of DNA and peptides, can become one of the most effective drugs against obesity and diabetes. For example, three years ago, biologists have found that the forced inclusion of one of these genes, PPAR-Delta turned mice into real athletes — they’re not fat and could run at an unusually large distance. Protein CT1, in turn, causes the heart muscle to strengthen and improve its work, as it usually happens after a long exercise.
Watching how the various genes and proteins in the brain of mice that spent every day for a few tens of minutes on a treadmill, Villeda and his colleagues discovered another similar protein that improves the functioning of brain cells.
Because of this, scientists have identified several such DNA segments and molecules, whose concentration in the brain cells at a consistently high level of physical activity changes dramatically. Selecting those that are associated with blood and its supposedly rejuvenating effect, the researchers tested how injections of such proteins will affect the livelihoods of older micethat had moved.
Experiments unexpectedly showed that almost all of the beneficial effects of the transfusion of “young” blood, improving brain function, were associated with the Gpld1 protein molecules. Liver cells produce large amounts of this substance at high physical loads.
If the concentration of Gpld1 in the body increases, the hippocampus, the memory center, begin to form new nerve cells, and inside of existing neurons included chain genes, which are responsible for the destruction of protein “trash” and the rejuvenation of the cells. It improves the functioning of the brain as a whole and increases mental abilities of older rodents.
Having discovered this effect, researchers tested what would happen if you force to include a gene that is responsible for the production of Gpld1 in the liver cells of older rodents. As it turned out, it also “rejuvenated” their brain, despite the fact that mice do not lead an active lifestyle and did not charge.
Thus the molecules themselves Gpld1 not penetrate the brain. Therefore, scientists can not yet understandwhat has caused the improvement of his work. Scientists suggest that the molecules fall into other organs and cause them to produce a set of signal substances that can cross the barrier between the brain and the circulatory system and force it to update itself. Subsequent experiences, as I hope Villeda and his colleagues will help to understand how exactly this happens.
Earlier, the “FACTS”, wrote that researchers at the University of Texas at Austin conducted the first clinical trial to “cure ageing” — the cocktail of drugs Sinaiticus, which cleanse the body of old, toxic cells. According to scientists, this tool will not rejuvenate people, but can slow down their aging.
