Secret Invasion: Marvel would have revealed the mysterious identity of Emilia Clarke by mistake

Emilia Clarke's identity in the Marvel series, Secret Invasion, may have been accidentally leaked.

In 2004, the Marvel Comics universe did not yet know that the content of its titles would be profoundly changed with the fresh arrival of Brian Michael Bendis at the controls of Avengers. Just like Kevin Feige currently for the MCU (well, well), the screenwriter had a long-term vision for his superheroes. He will first dismantle the famous team (Disassembled), resuscitate it (New avengers), witnessing its dissensions (Civil War, supervised on the other hand by Mark Millar), to end up instilling doubt in its ranks (Secret invasion).

If the arc Secret Invasion marked its time less than Civil War, it did, however, offer an interesting re-reading of The Invasion of the Grave Snatchersof Don Siegel on this occasion. The Skrulls, shape-shifting aliens, will intensify the ambient paranoia present since Civil War. The fear of the conspiracy then spreads in the minds of the superheroes until it discredits their leader Iron Man. However, the introduction of the Skrulls in the MCU has allowed Kevin Feige to develop his version of Secret Invasion, in the form of an upcoming series on Disney+. And after unveiling a paranoid trailer for Secret Invasion, Marvel may have made a big mistake on the internet.

Indeed, as reported by Collider, the identity of the character played by Emilia Clarke would have leaked. Former Games of Thrones actresswill indeed be one of the main performers of the new MCU SF spy series, alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders or Don Cheadle. While Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders and Don Cheadle will be reprising their respective roles as Nick Fury, Mariah Hill and James Rhodes, we didn't know until now that of Emilia Clarke.

However, Marvel may have accidentally exposed his identity in the series through his GIF account on the Tenor site. On the GIF of the actress was displayed the name of Abigail Brand(like that of Nick Fury on that of Samuel L. Jackson). A detail since removed by Marvel… but which was obviously noticed before its removal by fans on the lookout. Thus, for the record, in the comics, Abigail Brand is a half-human half-extraterrestrial half-breed and member of S.W.O.R.D, a branch of S.H.I.E.L.D (the counterintelligence agency directed by Nick Fury), intended to prevent threats from space.

And inevitably, Abigail played a notable role during the 'arc… Secret Invasion. However, the arrival of the S.W.O.R.D in the MCU precisely, has almost become an open secret following in particular the post credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home (where we see Fury collaborating with the Skrullls in a space station). That's why Abigail Brand's presence in the Marvel series proves to be very believable. It remains to be seen whether Emilia Clarke will indeed take on the features of the intergalactic spy.

In the event that the accidental leak hypothesis is confirmed, it is assumed that the repercussions on Marvel's communication plan around the series should be minimal. It was almost certain that Abigail Brand would take part, sooner or later, in the adventures of the secret agents made in Nick Fury. Also, such a reveal does not divulge any major secrets regarding the future program except huge surprise. Still scheduled for 2023 on Disney+, the exact release date of Secret Invasion should be announced soon by Marvel.
