The importance of physical activity cannot be disputed, but still in the modern world, a sedentary lifestyle as widespread as never before.
As reported BAGNET, in journal PNAS published an article, which the authors said, why do we need physical activity and why it would be bad. Scientists compared the lifestyles and the structure of the heart in different primates, including our “next of kin”, and man. Found some interesting details.
Many primates, for example chimpanzee and gorilla, leading a sedentary lifestyle. Most often, they lie or sit, but is able to increased loads. Their heart has thick walls and has a rounded shape that makes it easy to adapt to sudden load change. The human heart is more stretched, we have an enlarged left ventricle, and is able to “twist” to enhance the distillation of blood.
A sedentary lifestyle makes the heart like on primates, it becomes more rounded, the ability to twist is reduced. Than it threatens? First of all, a serious decrease in toughness. Costs a little to accelerate the move – shortness of breath, and then jog for a bus leaving the heart literally skipped a beat. It becomes difficult to climb the stairs even on the third floor.
But all fixable – as soon as in your life back moderate exercise, the heart starts to adapt to them and restore their normal function. Endurance will gradually increase, and the risk of premature death will decrease.
Interestingly, the thickening of the walls of the heart and rounding on observed people who have high physical activity – so the heart adapts to an increased load.
