Serbia refuses to recognize Russian referenda
The Serbian state protects its integrity, therefore it must respect the integrity of other countries, Aleksandar Vucic noted.
Serbia will not recognize the results of illegal Russian “referendums” in the occupied parts of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine. This was stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Reuters reports on Wednesday, September 28.
“Serbia does not recognize this referendum, as it adheres to international law, the UN Charter and UN resolutions,” the head of the Serbian state explained.< /p>
Note that Moscow supports Belgrade in its opposition to the recognition of Kosovo's independence. In addition, pro-Russian sentiments are widespread among Serbs. However, the Serbian authorities say they respect Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
“We are protecting our own territorial integrity and it is in our interest to protect the territorial integrity of other internationally recognized countries,” the president added.
Ukraine also does not recognize Kosovo's independence from Serbia.
As you know, Serbia seeks to join the EU. However, its further European integration is impossible without the adoption of sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
In addition, Vučić has previously stated that he sees “signs of a world war” in the way events in Russia's war against Ukraine unfold.
